This panel will explore how to we begin to create an equitable governmental public health system that works for everyone, everywhere by sharing experience and lessons learned in this work from across the country and right here at home.

How we achieve the mission of public health has changed dramatically in the last few decades. Attention is now being focused on the factors that contribute to poorer health, most of which are outside of health care. Across the country, states and local public health agencies are struggling to provide even essential services in the context of the changing landscape and diminishing resources. Health equity and the social determinants of health are the drivers of today's public health transformation, and the investment in these upstream factors are essential if public health is to have an impact on the health of our communities.
